12,437 US golf courses ranked on the figures they publish themselves.

How long they play, how hard the USGA rated them, how far the tees stretch and when they opened. One set of lists for the whole country, and the same lists again for municipal courses, resort courses, nine-holers and the rest — so a muni is ranked against other munis rather than against championship resorts.

Each list is one figure in order, so any row can be checked against the course's own scorecard. Length, slope and course rating measure how long and how hard a course plays — not whether it is any good. The exact figure behind every board is stated in the method.

By state and metro area

Every state's boards live on its own page; underneath each are the metro areas touching it with enough ranked courses for boards of their own — hardest first, because that is the question a metro page answers. Areas are the federal OMB delineations, so a metro crossing a state line is one page, listed under both states. All 280 metro areas →
