This site keeps you signed in and remembers your choices. Two optional tools add cookies of their own: Google Analytics, which counts visits, and Grow from Mediavine, a save and share button.
Both are listed below with a switch that works. They are on unless you switch them off, and
they stay off in a browser that sends Global Privacy Control. The other third-party scripts
are both Cloudflare's: a page counter that sets no cookie, and the human check, which loads
only when you create an account, sign in, report a record, or ask a question on the AI page.
What's stored, and why
Keeps you signed in, remembers your cookie choice, and carries the human check that lets you ask a question without an account. Without these the site cannot do the things you asked it to do, so there is nothing here to switch off.
Always on — the site cannot work without it, so there is no choice to offer.
Google Analytics counts visits and the pages they read, so we can see which pages are used and which are not. It sets two cookies on this site that let it recognise a returning browser. Google signals and ad personalization are switched off, so none of it is used for advertising. Switching this off stops it loading, and Global Privacy Control switches it off for you.
_ga · _ga_MY6N5MS0VK
Grow, from Mediavine, puts a small button on the page for saving and sharing it, and suggests other pages to read. Mediavine is an advertising company: Grow records how readers use it, and if you sign in to Grow your saved pages are kept in your Grow account. Switching this off removes the button and stops it loading, and Global Privacy Control switches it off for you.
Two counters run here. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without a cookie: it writes
nothing to your device and builds no profile or cross-site identifier, so it is not in the
list above. Google Analytics counts visits and the pages they read, and sets two cookies,
_ga and _ga_MY6N5MS0VK, so it can tell a returning browser from a
new one. Its advertising features, Google signals and ad personalization, are switched off.
Switch Analytics off above and it stops loading, and its cookies are deleted.
If you would rather not be counted at all, open any page with ?analytics=off at the
end of its address. This browser then keeps one entry in its local storage,
nsl-analytics, and neither counter, nor Grow, loads in it again. Open a page with
?analytics=on to remove the entry.
Grow, from Mediavine
Grow puts a small floating button on the page for saving and sharing it, and can suggest other
pages to read. It is run by Mediavine, an advertising company. It keeps a cookie,
growme_version, that records which version of the button to load, and an entry in
local storage, growMeSnowplowUserInfo, for the visit records it sends to
Mediavine. If you save a page or sign in to Grow, it also keeps entries that begin
grow-faves:. Grow can load advertising identity tools; this site blocks them.
Switch Audience off above and the button goes, Grow stops loading, and what it stored here is
deleted.
Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an instruction to opt you out of any sharing of your data, automatically.
You do not have to visit this page: Analytics and Audience both stay off, the settings above say
so, and they cannot be switched on until you turn the signal off in your browser.
Blocking cookies yourself
Your browser can block or delete any of this without asking us. Blocking the essential cookie
means you cannot stay signed in; everything you can read without an account — every club,
shaft and course page — keeps working. See privacy for what we collect on
the server side.
