171 U.S. metro areas have enough courses with published figures to rank, plus 109 combined areas spanning more than one metro.

Areas are the U.S. Office of Management and Budget's own delineations — a metro that crosses a state line is one area here, as it is on the ground. Ordered by how many of its courses we render; the count beside each is that population, not a rank.

Combined areas

OMB groups neighbouring metros that function as one region — the Triangle is Raleigh-Durham-Cary — and a course in one sits on both its metro's boards and these.

647 more areas hold courses we render but too few published figures to rank — they join this list the moment enough of their courses publish one. Course membership is derived from each course's ZIP code and the Census Bureau's published ZIP-to-county relationships; a course outside every delineated area appears on its state page and no metro page, which is the honest answer for rural golf.
